Hey guys, got a questions, how hard do you think it is to get into the program? ive heard from a source or two that it shouldnt be too hard because theyre always looking for people and if your happy and have a good attidude you should be fine. any thoughts?
Hey..cam...fat...kin.... It's hard to say how hard or easy it is to get in. I really think it's personality based? maybe...I also think it depends on your country too because some countries are interviewed by different people and could have a slightly different objective in what it is they look for. I thought I wasnt going to get it becuase my work experience is crap, nothing really volunteer and I had JUST gotten my first job about 2months before I applied and I quite that after 3weeks. So, that would lead me to believe it's personality based but then certain people with great personalities have been turned down. This doesnt help you at all, eh? Well, that's all I can give you. Stick at it, -Jei
Jei is right, it depends on where you're from. I've heard that in the UK, they rely a lot more on your experience. However in Canada, they look more fore whether or not you fit with the Disney image, that is guest service oriented, happy, friendly and they want to know that you want to be there. Best wishes with it!
UK seems to be part experiance, part personality and part luck. People who we all thought were dead certs got turned down, people who thought they had no chance got in. Good luck!
I personaly thought i had royaly screwed it up but was lucky enough to have got in ... i have worked in clubs and pubs/resturants for only two years but in my interview i was honest and totally myself, which at the time i thought i had hindered myself but hey!! i also have a summers nannying exp in NYC so that may have been taken into account.... but disney is strange who knows what they are after in a cast member!... i say just be yourself... coz everyone on this forum is wonderful and we all share the same dream... so why shouldnt we all get in to share it together!! xxxxxxxxxxx
yup im canadian...and i do have lots of experience in food. i worked with food serving and cooking at a movie theatre for a year and a half and currently im a waiter!
I haven't done F&B for YEARS but I GOT IT!!! ;D I work at the front desk of the hotel at a CASINO and they managed to give it to me!! F&B was something different and I am SO excited to do it!! The waiting game was the WORST but everyone in here is SO NICE and EXTREMELY supportive so that helped pass the time waiting to hear!! ;D GOOD LUCK ON YOUR QUEST TO DISNEY!! ;D ;D
i was real nervous during my interview as there were lots of super happy and loud people having interviews on the same day and i am a little quiet when i first meet new people but i was myself and i even said to the lady that i am not the loudest person here but that doesnt mean i am not able to do my best in my job and i got in!!! The interview lady (forgot her name) asked if she came to wales where would i take here to see? my answer.......sheep!!!!hahaha i was nervous ok! so it goes to show if i can get in , anybody can!
Yeah, its not always the most outgoing people that get in. I think it helps in some ways because outgoing people tend to represent themselves better in the interview because they are probably more comfortable in that kind of situation whereas people who are more shy, might be more nervous and might not be as accurate as they could be in an interview situation. But it does not mean that extroverts are more likely to get hired than introverts. Like I am somewhat shy until I get to know someone and then I'm a lot more outgoing. In my interview, I just tried to relax and showed them who I was and how much I wanted to be there, and that's what counts.
i agree! i think you have to be calm and just be yourself, it worked for me and im v shy in new surroundings but im gonna just get to no ppl and it wil be fine
i think it just totally depends on the impression u make on the interviewer... i have had 7 years of experience both in retail and f&b, everyone i met thought i was a dead cert to get it because of my bubbly and fun personality, yet i still never got the job. no idea where i went wrong lol but i guess what ive said doesnt really help u lol deffo wouldnt say it was easy to get in tho, massive number of applicants for a much smaller number of jobs. fingers crossed for u tho! ;D
I thought you were a dead cert Jilly! :-* You're funny, outgoing and so friendly!! I've still got my fingers crossed for you that you'll make it out there soon! xxx Fingers crossed for all of you! x
Ya know it's funny that this question camp up, I went for my interview then i got a call abotu a month later, to leave in two weeks! It all happened so fast, it was crazy! but then most of my arrival group was all people who had been waiting FOREVER! It seeemed like i was a lucky on to leave right away! But i think it was good in a way! See now my friend also applied for the program, and she is the most outgoing girl i have ever met and she said her interview went Well, and she got waitlisted.. She replied to the lady on the phone when she got told this, that she was to good to be waitlisted, lol i think she got put to the bottom of the pile! so to answer your question, I guess it really depends on you, If they see something in you that shines, something that sticks out to them, your going to go cause the guests will also see the special spark that made the interviews pick you! So my advice for the interviewies... Stand out like a SORE THUMB!, I knwo a girl at my interview, She knew an answer to a question, and she Was so excited that she knew it SHE JUMPED up, and yelled it out, they gave her the first interview..and she two was on my arrival group!
what sort ov experience are they looking for coz i have been a holiday rep and a travel agent! 4rm newcastle upon tyne UK btw lol bt still im a bit ???
customer service is what they look for - basically they want people who can sell the idea of disney as well as give incredible customer service. so if ur doing a cv or cover letter just play up how u have dealt with awkward people, how u have made a positive outcome from something negaitve etc... i have mainly retail and office experience and i got F&B so i dont think they care what area your experience is in really
Hey guys, In one of the other threads some1 was saying that out of 60,000 applicants roughly 6,000 get in. So basically, 10:1 ratio.
It's just timing and luck there is noway of knowing. I have got onto the college programme and like sumone said it happened so fast mine was over a two week period from applying to bein offered a job. A member on here can back up what i say coz she applied before me and i was just extremely lucky. the interview process is hard though you can't know everything they are goin to ask its the most random question you can't prepare for. Mine was done across a two part phone interview, one with a guy from yummy and one wit a really nice person out in Fl. Now i hate phones i don't like talkin on them let alone speakin to a random but to be honest it was't as bad as i tought it would be. the two people i spoke to were like great and it felt like i was havin a convo with my friends, to the extent where ur like "what the hell did i say that for!?" the best thing to do is not think about it all too much and let it happen and just let them see a lil bit of you in the conversations, do not lie at any point tho just tell the truth.
