Hello people of the Disney realm I am so excited to be applying in June, it can't come quick enough! I have done my C.V. and cover letter and am feeling really positive about both. Mickey would be proud I'm telling you lol! Anyone else excited for the application process? Anyone written their C.V. or letter or both? Or neither? I can't concentrate on my dissertation or anything, it's all been taken over by excitement and memories of WDW. Anyways, my little outburst there....good luck to everyone who's applying or on the waiting list! Have a magical day, Meerah xxx
it reallly cant come around fast enough for me either! im working on my cv atm, i find it so difficuld though and with not even getting a phone interview the past two times i applied, i dont hold high hopes for my cv making skills :/ lol *fingers crossed* third time lucky though there isnt a day go past that i dont think of it all, so yea my life is taken over too haha! oh well. at least its not drink and drugs we are addicted to instead! lol
Gary, do some Googling for CV advice, make it as stand out as possible. I've done a fair bit of recruiting before, so straight away give you the following; NEVER (repeat NEVER) use the Times New Roman font. 90% of CV's we receive in this font go in the bin. Use Arial, Verdana or Calibri Put all the personal info at the end - DoB, Education, Hobbies etc. Only info needed at the top is contact details. NEVER put the header/title Curriculum Vitae. It's obvious what it is and this 'cheapens' the overal aesthetic of a CV. Put your jobs in chronological order, starting with where you're currently working. Don't "waffle" - get straight to the point and stick to it Sell yourself but don't boast NEVER write a personal statement in the 3rd person, IE: "Gary is an excellent individual who can work well in a team". For all the person reading knows, this could be a quote from your Mum. Maximum of 2 pages (unless you're in your 40's and have 20+ years of work experience). Any other tips, yell.
Thanks David. A few good tips there I have had some advice before, all which semt really good, but obviously wasn't good enough. I'm not sure if it way my CV layout or just my work experience or what! Either way, there is always 'next time'. So I'm not gonna give up without a fight
Sweet, stick with it. The covering letter which goes in the "Motivation for Taking Part" box under the Work & Experience section on the Yummy Jobs site is key. Make this as standout as possible, sell yourself and relate as much as possible of what you write to the position you're applying for.
Yes, keep refering back to the CRP whilst writing your covering letter! E.g. 'Due to my work experience in ......, I have gained these skills...., which I feel would be an assest to the UK Pavilion' or something like 'My mix of education and work skills make me invaluable to the UK Pavilion' ALWAYS keep refering back to the job you're applying for and why you're the PERFECT person for the job! ;D
Wow David and Kim. All your tips were really helpful (thankyou) I just went back over my CV lol. Oh and Gary, I'm sure they'll accept you onto the program this time around. Sounds like you've been tortured enough now lol
Hehe thanks guys! Although even if I do get a phone interview I'll have noo idea what to expect in bth interviews as iv never had one before lol!
I cannot WAIT(!) for June!! I just wish it was sooner ... and then we still have a long time to do the whole interview process. I don't think I even handed a CV in for my last program ... oh how times have changed! Do we upload it or do we copy and paste it onto the application?!
First of all you create a Yummy Jobs account, where you will be asked to upload your most recent CV along with all your other personal details etc. Then when the applications open in June, you click the 'apply' button at the bottom of the CRP info page, where you will be taken to another set of forms. These are now more work related and here you either attach your 'Letter of Motivation' onto your CV in the same Word document, like I did, or write it out in the online box. I found it looked better to have it attached at the end of my CV, rather than trying to fit it all into a small-ish box. You need to fill out some other bits and bobs. Check that your most current and perfect CV and Letter of Motivation has uploaded and that all of your info is correct at time of going to print, and voila! Click the 'Apply Now' button and your application is sent! ;D You're then an official CRP June 2010 applicant!
Hey!I just want to say that I think its great how you haven't given up. I'm currently on the waiting list for Canada and the CV was definitely pretty challenging. Before my application in October, I had never written a CV before, so I was clueless. I did as much research as I could- via google images, documents to even YouTube videos- all the help you can get will only benefit you Since I took resume tutorials at school (but not CV) I could help you out if you need someone to check it or help you fix it- I know how challenging it can be and I really believe in perseverance and never giving up!! You'll get what you want and Disney would be lucky to have you- the other two times they just didn't know it yet
thanks yeh i have looked at many online CV making tutorials, and youtube videos ect, just not sure what it is they are after to make me stand out from the crowd! aww cool thanks Rachel that would be amazing i think my fb page and or msn is on my profile here in case u wanna get in touch!. congrats to getting as far as the waiting list! im sure you will be there in no time
Hey Gary, have you thought about taking your CV to an employment agency where they can go over it in fine detail? In Canada, many towns have employment centres where this service is free! Or maybe ask current participants from the UK pavilion if they could send you a copy of theres so you can see what they are doing differently from you. Just some ideas... I really want to see you succeed. With your persistence and willing to learn, I have complete confidence that this will be your time! Good luck!
Also if either of your parents have a recruitment section at their work ... or know the person who hires at their job then ask them if they can pass it on for feedback ... my dads company gave me so much advice they pretty much re-did my entire CV!! Try and get feedback from as many places as possible bcz everyone looks for different things!
I too plan on applying in June. I am SO excited!! I am currently in my final year of Uni and am starting to panic about life after uni. I have been to WDW several times in the past few years and always wish I was one of the cast members at the parks. I wish I could apply now - and then just stare at my inbox until the deadline! Aha.
Also ... quick questions ... who did ya'll address your cover letters to? Did you put Dear Sir/Madam or does anyone know the name of the person it needs to go to?
I didn't address mine to anyone, I just put the title of 'Letter of Motivation' and then started writing. They don't actually ask for a Covering Letter but instead have an on-line form titled 'Motivation for taking part'. Some people write straight into that box or others write it in a Word Doc and then attach it to the end of their CV (I did). Also, if you do address it someone remember: Dear Sir/Madam = Yours Faithfully Dear ...(name)..... = Yours Truly Hope this helps! ;D ;D
OMW I put yours magically too! lol! damn, thought I was being creative and original too haha roxy: I wish I could just apply now and look at my inbox all day as well lol! not long tho
