I'm in the process of packing at the moment (ie. there's 2 days 'til I go so I better start thinking about it!!) and thought we could do with a thread for questions about what we need/don't need to take.

I was wondering about jumpers, jackets and jeans (oooh, alliteration) etc. - I'm on the summer program, so will I need to take any of these at all? Will it just be too frikking hot for such nonsense?!

you shouldn't need any jackets... i took a couple of pairs of jeans, in case u wanna go out and not wear shorts.
i'd take a jumper or 2 cos ur room mates might like the a/c up really high, which means it might get very cold!

Ok great, thanks! I guess I'll wear jeans and a jumper on the flight and will be buying things out there so I should be alright!

the fewer bulky/thick clothes= the more space to put stuff you buy out there ;D

I've never been to Orlando in summer, but always found microfleeces were quite good for places with similar-ish climates if you have any, might be a good solution to the a/c problem anyway, especially if it's kept on at night...

Lol.. I dunno what a microfleece is but I'll have a look when I go round Tesco's for last minute bits tomorrow!

I would at least recommend gloves and a scarf, depending on the months you are going. I arrived in Feb 06 and it was freezing, we were going to parks in hoodies and coats, gloves, scarfs...my big fat Bakery costume coat barely kept me warm!

Don't take too many pairs of jeans, or t-shirts though...you can buy a lot out there, and for the first few weeks at least, you'll most likely be spending a lot of time in costume and smart wear!

I'm right smack in the middle of packing, too. I hope just black cloth pants are dressy enough for the first few days. They have a bit of lint on them. Hmmm.

And I know I will NEVER ever need a touque down there but I am definately bringing one for cultural meaning. Plus I just can't imagine a year of my life without my beloved touque.

It's hard to think about what I'm wearing since I know for five days of the week I will be wearing my costume for most of the day!

Ooooh and my cd's! There's no way I'm taking all of them. I feel terrible leaving the cases behind, but ahhh well. I've narrowed it down to an essential 90 or so... oh, I'm terrible.

And of course I'm getting SO DISTRACTED going through all my pictures choosing what to take. I always sit down and get comfy and get totally lost in remembering those times.

Almost Famous is a great one :D

I was tempted to bring DVDs too, but I have to draw a line somewhere. I feel so stone age without a laptop or Ipod - and my mp3 player only holds about 100 songs so I am so out of luck with that. It was uber cheap, though. That makes it a bit better!

    Aaah back to the grindstone.

Don't worry Jennifer k I'm a geek too! i got a dvd wallet to bring my collection down(holds a couple hundred disks), it's great because it fits into my carry on bag with room to spare so it will never be out of my sight.

And guys please be carefull taking copied dvd's into the US their copyright laws are very strict. You don't want them to be found if they search your bags at the airport. I'm leaving all my burnt disks at home.

If I was to bring my dvd collection I would need to ship it overseas, it wouldn't fit alone into the two suitcases I'm allowed to bring! So that idea is well out the window... I too am a geek when it comes to films, but since it's my degree i think I'm allowed :)

Anything essential can come with me but at the same time, i have my blockbusters card and I heard you can rent disney dvd at the commons anyway or somesuch and anything else will be bought there anyway.

First things I am buying are the blue edition High School Musical dvd and the box set of season 1 of Psych. And in August the first season of Heroes is on dvd... so along the way I'll be buying plenty as they are released Stateside. But with the amount of work being done I doubt I'll have as much time to watch dvds as I would like!

But I think a HSM2 party is in order on August 17th :) I want that night off to I can watch!!!

Just don't take any Disney DVD's! Vista Ways Disney Learning Centre has an extensive collection to borrow (or at least they did when I lived there, it used to be just videos, then a few months before I left they brought in all the DVD's) and usually they get all the new releases straight away as well. They're very popular though so you've got to be quick ;) the Epcot International trailor also has quite a few as well!
