Hi, I was just reading the post on money on the applicants board about how much people actually take with them, but I was just wondering what other expenses are there that have to be paid before going on the program? And how much approximately is the flight from the UK? Just a bit worried about not being able to go because of a lack of money! Thanks - Vanessa
hey vanessa! the flights return are about £550 and you will need a criminal background check, about £60, also visa in total £80 approx and insurance, hope this helps x
Ooh that's brilliant thank you, I'd better start saving! I've had a criminal background check already so hopefully I can bring the certificate and not get that done again! Is it health insurance and belongings insurance that's needed? Or does it count as travel insurance?
think its just compulsary to have medical insurance, you also need money to cover rent and food the first 2 weeks, when you goin? im goin 4th june !!!
I haven't applied yet, but I will be sending off my application asap! Congrats for getting in! I can't imagine how excited you must be! I'm going to be so jealous on the 4th of june! (And every other day that someone goes!) And thank you for the info
Hate to say it hun but you'll need another Disclosure/criminal back ground check thing. I have three from the past three years and had to get another one. The things are really out of date as soon as you receive them. If your going for the year then i think you need medical insurance for the first ?three? months then Disney's one kicks in plus if you are the IP program then you get your flight refunded (i think - pretty sure thats what i've been reading) sure someone will confirm that for you. Anyways good luck with your application! Mhairi
YES I was told that IF I am successful in the year program, they would pay for my flight back home!! Hope this helps ya!! Reading the information in here and what we were told during the interview process, they expect you to bring around $300-$500!! HOWEVER, you need to purchase things like linens and food and the like so I am TOTALLY bringing WAY MORE then that!!
Aw that's annoying about the criminal background check, thanks for letting me know. Flight refund sounds good though seeing as that's the biggest expense. Thanks again
When did you get your most recent CRB check? Last year, I was told that Yummy/Disney would except a check obtained through another Registered Body if it was very recent; I believe they said six months, but don't quote me on it. I remember that my most recent wasn't quite recent enough. (Incidentally, policy on this is absurdly complex. Advice from the CRB, the Home Office and the DfES is constantly changing. As anyone involved in areas of life where child protections concerns are particularly prevalent will know, it is a nightmare!).
I think mine's almost 2 years old now - definitely more than 6 months! I had no idea about the policy problems...although the first time I had to do one it took ages - I'd been working for several months before I got it back. How awful would it be if you couldn't go to Disney because the CRB hadn't processed it in time! I guess it's done far in advance though?
wow...that's expensive for a flight to Orlando. I have offers of 300€ but my last one cost 800 so that might was the wrong season ... :-\
Yeah, two years not going to work! And yes, the disclosures can come back very late - I got mine on the Friday and flew on the Sunday!!
You only get your flight refunded if you go for a year us CPs had to pay for our flight. And i took bout $500 with me which lasted me for ages and you have to buy ur own shoes when u arrive i had to buy two pairs but the shoes at wallmart are so cheap!! *sniff sniff* i miss wallmart!!!so cheap so cool lol Gem
hey, how much luggage are we able to take with us? is there like limitations?... i usually tend to pack like im going away for a year when i go on like a week holiday... this time i actually am going for a year... who knows how much i will want to bring this time!!
kerrbear, It depends on your airline... Generally, I think it's something like 2 suitcases, one carry-on bag (e.g. backpack) and one personal item (e.g. laptop in case, handbag, camera in case etc.) But again, it depends on the airline. KC
I'm flying American Airlines, anyone any ideas what the baggage allowance is? Went on their website but got so confused!! Thanks! Cat
hey mate i've been trying to find this info also...and i think this may help you https://www.aa.com/content/travelInformation/baggage/baggageAllowance.jhtml hope so if you scroll down to the middle of the page, you'll see the allowance for international flights...the bit at the top is for just if you're flying around USA or between US and Canada,
On a slightly different note, does anyone know how prices compare between US and Canada? IE: Is it cheaper to buy stuff in the US like toothpaste and shampoo etc... than in Canada? or is it pretty much the same and you might as well buy it there to save luggage space?
The only problem with buying stuff out there is that you wont get to Walmart until your second (and maybe not even then!) day... Which means, 2+ days without brushing your teeth or being able to have a shower without borrowing stuff from others. I'll be taking my stuff with me, I think *chuckles* KC
