Hey! I actually have two questions! One is, I was just wondering if there was a particular age that most people are when completeing the Cultural Representative Program? I've heard that being 21 is a huge asset because of the drinking age, so would it be worth while to wait until I'm 21?

And the second one is, I'm currently 18 and would love to do something like this, but I have four years of university ahead of me. Is there anyone who has taken a year off school to complete this program that could tell me if it was worth it or if they would do it differently?

    Thanks so much! :D

The age depends on where you're from! And about being old enough to drink depends all on you and how much you like to drink. But most people under 21 drink anyway, they just make sure they don't get caught. A lot of people go when they're 18, but there's also quite a few that's in their twenties...

I'm 21 and I've just finished uni this year and will be doing the CRP in July. I'm kinda glad that I've got all my education out of the way, got a degree and now I can just focus on getting experience for my career. I'm sure its different for everyone.

If you wanna focus on school first, maybe do the ICP summer program while in uni, then after spend the year on CRP. That's kind of my plan at the moment-- I am doing ICP this summer. I've just finished my first year and am really close with my friends. Taking a year off would mean a year in school after all my friends and housemates have graduated-- I don't wanna do that, so I'm hoping to do CRP the year after I graduate. Academically I think in most cases it would be fine, its just hard to break it up like that. I think most people do it for a year between high school and uni, or the year after they are done.
    Hope that rambling advice helps...

My son got his degree in elementary education before going down for the full year. He hasn't used his degree because of working at WDW but its nice for him to know he's done school when he gets home. It was a really nice way to switch gears, so to say, after 4 years of University and have a little fun before starting a permanent career. If its something you have had your heart set on doing for a very long time - it might be hard to wait 4 years. Keep in mind though that its so far away from home, family and friends and a lot easier to make the move when you're a bit older and have been away at University for 4 years too. In the end it will be up to you whether you want to put your education on hold for awhile or not. I know of at least one girl who actually did the ICP program twice - two summers in a row - the experience is great but if you need to save money for the next year of University you won't make a lot working in the parks and for sure not enough to save for the whole school term.

    Hi!

im turning 18 at the end of the month and im doing CRP starting in August. ive decided to take a year off school but it was a tough decision. it really depends on what works for you. I decided that this experience would be worth having before going off to university. My parents were ok with it as long as i accepted to a school and then differed for a year. thats just my situation...hope it helps:)

    Hi!
I'm 21 and I'm actually taking this year off University for the program.
I'm not sure yet if it's worth it, but I am in no rush to be done school.

I am 22. I suggest just from all I heard that you wait till 21. Maybe go to school and do the ICP for a bit. Only problem with being under 21 is you cant drink. Yet at parties many people will be drinking. And if you get caught, your sent home and wont get back into any of the programs for a long time. There are people over 20 in the ICP. But your there a shorter amount of time.

I dont know I missed my big chance at the ICP so I am not totaly sure. All I know is they are a crazy group. LOL. Depends on how you feel. But my over all suggestion is wait till 21 or apply at 20 for a time to go when your 21. Just takes away the underage drinking problem that you wont have to worry about.

Pretty much everyone has been saying the same thing.
It seems to me that most people are 18 or 21.
Or at least the bunch I've been talking to.
I turn 21 one month before I leave.

i'm applying as a year out from everything i know and am used to. but then gap years have the tendancy to change your outlook on life and your goals. everyone is in it for different reasons which i think is fantastic. i've just finished my degree and i'm looking forward to running away from it as fast as i can to mickey mouse!!

Same!! Or at least I'm trying to!!

I've not done this program before, but I think the age thing all depends on your current lifestyle and what you want to get out of the program. I myself would be 21 if I get onto the program, and because I'm so used to being able to drink socially, whether thats popping to the pub for a few quiet drinks or going out clubbing, I would definitely feel the burn if I couldn't drink. But if you're not used to being able to go out drinking, or if its just not your "thing", then I would say probably the age thing wouldn't come into it. I think I read you get put into "wellness" apartments automatically if you're under 21 which means you're not allowed alcohol in the apartment, so I'm guessing you'll be with other under 21'ers :D
