Just wondering if anyone knows much about the 'voluntEARS' or 'give kids the world' that you can get involved in over there, what kind of things do you do? Has anyone been involved in it?
I asked about this in my interview. Apparently they love International people to get involved. All Kim said really was Disney and surrounding attractions give poor kids access and make their dreams come true. You act as like a guide and friend and spend time with the kids and take them round the park. I'm definately gonna enrol. I think they organise field trips too so oppurtunities to see more of Florida.
i asked about this at interview too and kim said that it can range from going into a school and giving a talk on ya culture to baby sitting or helping someone with a disability arund their house, to taking kids round the park and stuff. i also wanna be enrolled in doing this too
It's not really liek that... VoluntEARS goes to "Give Kids the World" (Mini-theme park type resort) for terminally ill children on Sunday and Wednesday's at 4pm. You play games (Life sized Candy Land) and be friends to the kida and families there. There are also School/Library Trips to talk about the program and your country!
I asked about this at my interview as well - I really want to get involved, as well! Plus Life Sized Candy Land seems like a once in a lifetime oppurtunity
does anyone know what the difference between "Give Kids the World" and "make a wish"?? i asked disney at my interview and they said that its make a wish and nowt to do with Give Kids the World?? confused....
Make a wish is a worldwide organisation. I thought Give Kids the World was just disney operated. I could be wrong though, but they certainly have the same principle behind them at times. Make a Wish are the ones who grant a wish though, like going from britain to america to go to disneyworld etc. Give Kids the World, going by the convo so far here, also seems to be local i the case of weekly meetings or somesuch? It is something worthwhile to take part in, but I'm not sure I'll join. I'd probably find it too upsetting. But if they pitch it to mee well at DU then I might join in!
Wow! It´s cool that many of you want to be part of this, me too!!! I found this webpage with a litlle info... http://disney.go.com/disneyhand/ :
Give Kids the World is a private organization started by a family that works in partner with DisneyWorld! It's a resort where families with terminally ill children can stay and have a good time at DisneyWorld for little or no cost! Make a Wish Foundation does not necessarily have anything to do with Disneyworld. They grant terminally ill children their wishes! Could be meeting a famous actor/musician to going on a hot air balloon ride to going to DisneyWorld.
I'm also really looking forward to enrolling in VoluntEARS... It will make the experience so much better, and open up more oppurtunities...
they likely hood you'd actually have the days off to volunteer since we only Volunteer to Give Kids the World Wednesdays and Sundays
Absolutely LOVING it! Just not getting many day to myself...I wanna see friends on your days off so you go hang out and go to the parks....don't get a day to recooperate really!
I see what you mean...I do like down time every now and again... I'm glad its going well and i'll see you in a week... Where are you working again??
