The Virtual Leaving Book (VLB) was the original name for the WDWIP.com Discussion Forums. The name is derived from the 'Leaving Book' that participants have their friends sign during the last few weeks in the programs.
The forums launched in 1999, shortly after WDWIP.com was created. The original forum was a simple threaded-discussion format. This worked well for some time, but became cumbersome as posts and users increased. It also lacked flexibility. The next version of the forums used the perl-powered message board, YaBB. However, the forums suffered a serious crash in 2002, and it was decided to migrate to the current software, SMF (for Simple Machines Forum).
