Ooo, I've seen that Dim Sum bar, by the bay right?? Didn't know it was proper posh with cocktails and stuff though, definitely want to try this now! Yay for The Fortune House, I'm living a the road that's basically attached to Salisbury Road next year so that may just have to become a regular (well... takeouts more likely, can't afford a £16 buffett too often :p)

On the subject of food/ tea etc, do they provide a kettle over there or is that something we'll have to buy from Walmart if someone hasn't already got one?

  3. Oooh I had forgotten about tea. I think I may be forced to take some proper tea over with me. The American's cant do tea properly, well not from my experience anyway

Im pretty sure there's a kettle in the kitchen..

If not you'll be able to get one dirt cheap from walmart..

Just a comment amount walmart, don't think everythings dirt cheap, because i don't think that it is..Its like $10 for a bag of chicken nuggets! I was like  Ill just go to mcdonalds! haha..

And can you take tea bags over? It could be seen as another kind of substance, haha..

lol, you can buy tetley in america. they do it slightly different in that there's nothing that's just 'tea'. they call that 'orange pekoe'. so you can find tea bags that taste like proper tea there anyway, lol.

you can get tea bags over here, they sell good old PG Tips at Walmart!!!! and yes, there are kettles in the kitchens but they are the old fashioned kind that you have to fill up and put on the cooker to heat up!!! You can also get Cadburys chocolate at walmart so dont worry about the chocolate thing!

yeah, you just can't take any liquid on in your hand luggage unless it's less than 100ml and in your clear plastic bag. you can take in your suitcase, but if you do, wrap it up well! you don't want it exploding in the pressure and cold up there!

So does that mean we can't take a drink on the plane?

http://www.seatguru.com/articles/tsa_prohibited_items.php#beverages that's what you are and aren't allowed apparently... although when I last flew (August last year, a couple of weeks after the terror threats) you were allowed to take onboard stuff you bought in duty free after the security checks. But I was going to Canada, so it's quite possibly more strict for the US?

If you're not allowed liquids, though, they'll probably provide a lot more drinks on the flights. I flew back from somewhere during the whole terror alert stuff (less than a week later anyway...) and they were constantly walking up and down the plane with water, orange juice etc, even though it was a night flight! Actually felt quite sorry for them...

I don't get what the difference between them serving it to you and you taking it on! You could still mix it into a so called dangerous substance most likely..

I don't really get how they made that dangerous liquid on the plane, but surely you could mix it with what they serve you on the plane, so whats the difference! ???

i thinkit was a liquid explosive they had? like two active ingredients in speerate bottles that when combined exploded or soething similar?

i flew out on the staurday after everything kicked off on the thursday last year and i wasnt happy!!!im diabetic i have to take aspirin on flights to combat possibility of dvt, also have to carry my blood glucose monitor on me and some other stuff - stupid woman at security tried to take the monitor off me (its a projectile weapon apparantly because it flicks a pin out) depsite the fact i had all the prescription stuff form my dr they also took my aspirin off me and my nephews travel sickness stuff off him - have u ever travelled with a 14 year old whos terrified of flying who also has severe adhd? and nothing allowed into the cabin with u no gameboy nothing oh and the inflight entertainment where we were sat was broken argh!!!!

slightly side tracked there lol actually it was horrible tho because despite taking my highly dangerous and explosive aspirin off me they let my aunt's husband go through with a lighter in his bag!

also carrying fizzy drinks in ya checked luggage not a good idea - they can explode due to the pressure and temp changes and also they take up valuable luggage allowance weight which could for example be filled with shoes :D

yeah, it's all to do with what can be mixed. it's a case of they don't know what you arrived with, but anything they have on the flight on offer they know is just coke or vodka or whatever. you can get duty free that you then pick up once through security, possibly actually pick up on the plane. not sure.

but no, you can't take any liquid over 100ml through securityl when i went to belfast, i lost my boarding pass, had just bought a huge bottle of water and had to dump it while escorted back through to check in again to get a new pass. had to go through security again ANYWAY in case i ran past someone who had slipped me something etc so it's really strict.

it's a british thing though, not american or candian or anything. it's our measures as the bomb plot was in britain last year.
