I think that we should all get interviews, and then all be in the same interview group, as we practically all know each other already
Okay, can someone please clarify for me? I know we all refer to it as the ICP on here, but it's not called the ICP on the disney website, so what do we refer to it as in our applications?
Refer to it how they have it written on the website. It's written on my CV as "Disney International Programs: J-1 Cultural Exchange Program, Summer, UK."
Not long now!! ;D So just for some last minute cv/cover letter tweaking... Does anyone have any idea of what NOT to include in your cv/cover letter? As it's been mentioned previously, apparantly the cv/cover letter stage is the stage where loads and loads of people get eliminated from the process. So I was just thinking what things are best to avoid in our applications? (Apart from the obvious, such as writing I hate Disney or I want a holiday )
Haha yeah just don't say you hate Disney or your first choice would be a job at Universal I've just tried to show flexibility..ie dont say specific attractions you want to work on or they might think you only want to go to work there...if that makes sense. I haven't said anything about specific roles in my cover letter. Obviously its guess work for me too so don't sue me Five days people!! Five days!!
Yeah I'm not sure what to do about that, because originally I wasn't gonna mention anything about specific roles. And then I saw a few people saying they'd briefly mentioned it, so I put in a little bit about it too! But now I'm thinking of taking it out again... But at the same time it really relates to what else I'm saying in the same paragraph about enjoying interacting with guests etc. Hmm decisions decisions!
To be honest I think anything will be fine as long as you aren't too specific, so if you work in a shop it would be fine to say those skills would make you well suited to a merchandise role, but personally I wouldn't go on to say I'd like to work in Magic Kingdom, ideally the north east side of the new Fantasyland...kind of thing! If that makes any sort of sense! Haha! Plus it's also down to personal preference, as I'm sure we've all been told different things about what makes a cv etc .... As Mickey might say...just follow your heart and all of your dreams will come true ;-)
I'm getting more and more nervous every day! This years people have got their last schedules now...where did that time go?!?!?
Yeah I know I keep thinking that. I've been following a couple of people's vlogs/blogs who are out there at the moment and I remember the other week or something they said they only had around 3 weeks left or something?! Crazy how quick the time has gone! Makes me understand why a lot of people want to end up going back and doing the year long CRP! Out of interest would anyone here be interested in doing that one day? Or is it likely just the ICP? Obviously its difficult for those of us who have never even done the ICP before to say, but it's still fun to speculate ;D
I think the people that started on June 1st finish on August 9th don't they? So very soon! Feels like yesterday I was sat here green with envy looking at all their "IM GOING TO DISNEY WORLD TOMORROW" blog posts! ha! I found out the other day that one of my friends' roommates is out there doing Merch at Magic Kingdom! That just sent jealousy levels through the roof! Unfortunately it would be extremely difficult for me to do the CRP, as much as I would want to. I've got 2 years of my 4 year course left, so I couldn't take a year out of Uni, and I have to get a full time teaching job and teach for a year after that to gain QTS (qualified teacher status) and I couldn't just leave the school after only working there a year (unless I hated it of course!). So it definitely wouldn't be within the next four years...but if I got on the ICP and loved that as much as I think I would, I would be chomping at the bit to go back again! : How about you??
Yeah well I'm similar to you really. I haven't even started uni yet (start in September) but I've thought about the CRP as a possibility after I finish uni, but i'm not sure how practical it would be. My degree is a literature based degree so I'm still not entirely sure what I wanna do with it! I actually considered maybe doing a PGCE is it? To be a primary school teacher after my degree, but I'm still not sure if that's the route I wanna take. Either that or maybe a masters in something english related. But whichever I choose, it will most likely be going into further study of somesort after I finish uni, instead of going into a direct job. And so with that in mind, it's kind of awkward with regards to the CRP, because I'm not sure how well it is looked upon if you take a gap year between finishing undergrad and beginning a postgrad (if that makes sense) unless of course, what you plan on doing in the gap year relates to your postgrad course (and the crp wouldn't really relate to mine ). So yeah I have no idea really! Guess I'll have to see, luckily I have quite a long time to plan out my future though as my course is 4 years long! And of course I haven't even done the ICP yet, I could end up hating it and therefore never wanting to do the CRP, but I'm very sure that won't happen haha ;D
Finished my cover leter WOOOOOHOOOOO ;D I was just reading on the Disney International Programs website that you can take classes whilst taking part in the program and was wondering if anyone knew what classes are available?
We don't take classes, the college program does for college credit. The only classes I guess we can go to are ones on like CV writing, career development etc. unless I've Ben missing out on something!
Yeah i think youre right it might just be lectures rather than classes. They keep putting videos up on the DisneyIP YouTube of people in classrooms and tallking about different things like marketing and creativity!
That's most likely PIs or CPs. as far as in aware the only classes ICPs/CRPs go to are in Vista and Chatham but I've always been working during them.
Isn't it the Americans that take the classes? Because they spend whole semesters out there and it's actually part of their university course. Plus, I wouldn't particularly want to be heading out for the summer of a lifetime, and then be sat in a classroom THREE DAYS. I feel a little bit sick with excitement!
