Hi i think Visas usually begin 30 days b4 you actually are meant to start work. I know this was the case when i had a J1 study visa... i think the Q1 should be the same, however you should contact your nearest US embassy, who would know for sure. You cant have both a tourist visa and a Q1 visa - as you need to enter under one category. Hopefully the Q1 visa will begin in August and that way you'll have 30 days to visit Alabama... But check it out as US regulations change all the time... Hope it works out for you... Marie
