guys, stay positive!!! from what ive heard from leigh-ann is that the crunch is not that noticeable so far. she hasnt seen a huge drop in the hours she is working or anything. so i think we can take a breather from this hecticly depressing topic ;D and look forward to actually going there!
hahaha love it! That guy has made the front cover of Rolling Stones magazine. Rockstar. Surely we're in safe hands.
I wouldn't worry about not having money lol...I got $60 the other day for doing one day's work....we can survive! We're not really noticing the effects of economic crisis here...ok some people say the parks are low, but they're still pretty busy! And with me buying up everything I don't think there will be a problem LOL. As for hours, well I can't vouch for everyone as I have a different role to most people (I'm a perm assignor which means I do that role most days) and because assignors work entire shifts I'm pretty much guaranteed hours. However, the R&C has been fully booked most nights and absolutely packed, so no worries there either! Also, yes, there is all that free stuff to do! Take food with you to the parks and you don't have to spend a thing! Think carefully about what you buy and ask yourself if you really need it (ok this doesn't work with me, but it's worth a try no?) Hurry up and get out here people.
it is. but i guess i've got to graduate before then, so i literally have to wait i'm sure it'll go pretty fast!
hey guys, this really sucks! i'm sorry to have to post this, but check out this link... :-[ http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/orl-bk-disney-reorg-021909,0,1094627.story
Bad news, but i guess that refers more to back office support functions rather than front line workers in the parks? The parks still need staff, the main reason for the loss of revenue is due to tourism from other countries slowing down, with less holidaymakers flying over as they're being careful with their money. More people are taking domestic holidays in their own countries, and with the size of the U.S. i dont think Disney will lose too much more trade! Guys like us will be fine, and as the recruitment process is so long for WDW they can look down the line and just offer less places rather than make cut backs when you get there. So in a way i guess im saying if anyone isnt successful, its better they say 'no' now rather than lay you off when you've been there a couple of months? Ooh that was very in depth for this time of the morning! What do others think?
nick, do you have a masters or a phd or something that you're not telling us about? from what i've heard, CRPs are being kept pretty busy, so i can't imagine it will affect us, but as nick said, they may take it into consideration for the current applicants etc. and the parks are such an important source of revenue, even in this economic climate, that they can't really afford (in a non-financial sense) to be cutting back numbers of staff when there are still lots of guests, and making the experience a bit second class for the guests.
From what i understand, the 300 management jobs that were going to be axed is going through. Disney have apparently offered everyone i very generous money package to leave and that 90% of them are going to take it incase Disney sack them anyway. If i'm honest, i don't see Park Staff being hugely affected. Especially us International workers as Park Guest numbers are actually pretty good. The issue are that guests are not buying merchandise. It's a bit of a shame that both Disney world and Land California will be pretty be getting the same attractions and promotions because it may put people off from going to both but i guess it will save a fair bit of money. It's maybe a good thing that Disneyland Shanghai is going ahead as that will make Disney some serious money. They only need to put up 10% of the development cost yet they get 50% of all the profits. The economy is bad everywhere but i think Disney are pretty safe. They are letting people go out of a mammoth 65,000 cast members but they have enough money to build new rides and attractions
I was getting a little worried about this but my mum made a really good point. Just like some of you said they still need they same amount of people working in the parks. Also they pay us pennies, so they would have to get rid of TONS of us to make a difference. It is the big guys up at the top making lots of money that need to be worried
Hahaha... Koda you're absolutely right about it! Guys we shouldn't be worried I mean they will pay us the same (cents) but think in here what matters is the experience right? See you all soon! Have a great weekend Lou
Sorry, for late get in this topic. I get stuck with work the whole last week. Yes, every opinions are right. I'm quite sure that we won't be kicked off during the contract. The thing that may happen with us is lower the hiring hours. Anyway, this is another good point, as we have more time to make more friendship in our housing area (positive thinking). And yes, if they need to lay off someone, he/she should be in the top management level. One more thing that I just think about, how much the reporters spread the news about economic crisis is how much everyone get worry and try to save their money, is the more worse for world economic. As part of world's money were kept in people's pocket, so how can the world economic flow in its circulation. That's why many governments of each country try to stimulate their people to spend the money to help the economic flow. Anyway, we need to think of the activities that no need to use much money, so that we all can join those activities during our day off and make more good relationship and friendship. ;D
Listened to the Magical Definition podcast this morning and they said people doing ICP and other short term based work are the safest at Disney because Disney can get away with cheap labour. It's only in management like mentioned where jobs will be cut
There's plenty of ways to save money there anyway, pretty sure there's a thread around here somewhere Hopefully by September ill be there and it might have eased up a smidge
