    hi everyone
here is a random question (for the ladies really!!)
If i want to take a supply of the contraceptive pill over to Florida with me from the UK do i need to take a letter from the doctor with me,to prove to the people at customs what it is???
Im just terrified that il get into trouble for having medication on me!!! Also, whats the situation with doctors out there?? Like in the UK we can just go to the GP and get it,how does it work in america?
    Thanks!!!

Yeah thats a really good question.. Im from Canada.. so i dont think there will be a big issue... but Any one know if it would be an issue on the plane or threw customs?

  3. I don't think it should be a big deal as long as they're in their original packaging with your name on it, just like any other medication you would need.

I managed to get my doctor to prescribe 13 months worth before I left so I was covered the whole time I was out there...I don't think it's normal practice for doctors to do that, but there's no harm in explaining your situation to them to see what they can do about it!!! They might even suggest what you can do if they can't do that! :)

The first time I came out my doctor gave me a year's supply of my pill to bring out. Check with your doctor it should be fine. I also asked my doctor to write a letter just stating that he has prescribed these pills for me, just incase but i was never asked.

If you don't manage to get enough pills to bring out, the US is a wee bit funny trying to get them. Almost all doctors won't give you pills unless you have a Pap Smear (whether you're due for one or not). This is not cheap, and I don't believe Disney health insurance covers it.

However, Planned Parenthood, is the place I went to to get my contraceptive pills. You can get them without a pap smear, though they recommend it. If memory serves it was $35 to be seen by a Dr / nurse and then $20 per pack of pills. I had my pack from the UK with me and they matched it with a generic one from the US. They are used to international people coming in for contraceptive pill. If you do plan on going to the Planned Parenthood, you will need a car as its in downtown orlando, and no buses run anywhere near it.

The worst part is that the contraceptive pill is free in the UK, and in the US you have to apy for it. Not sure if prices vary by going to differnet doctors, but planned parenthood gives the pill for $20 per pack (One pack = one month).

    Hope that helps

MMR and Hep A for going to the states?! How odd... Guess MMR makes sense as you'll be living in close quarters with people who might not have had the injection, and nobody wants measles... but hep a?!

god knows like - i never had MMR as a kid so thats why im getting it,if i had ever gone to uni i would have had a letter through in 1st or 2nd year asking me to go get it,so its cool. he said hep a was optional, may aswell just get it,cover all bases!!!
