Hi all former CMs I just got a reply e-mail from ameritaxshope, to whom I sent my W2 and information, and they said my tax had been processed. I would be incurring a $65 tax preparation fee (??I thought it was more like $30 last year??) and would be receiving $599. Bearing in mind I worked from April to December (allthough be it in Merch) and my W2 stated I had $1227 federal income tax withheld, this sounds a little too.. little. I was under the impression that since we earnt peanuts, we receive all our income tax back from the IRS. Am I wrong? Or did I get ripped off? Thanks for your input! Beth xxx
I'm getting about $800 back, and I paid in over $5,000. If you go to this doc http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040nr.pdf there is a big chart in the last pages that shows how much tax you owe the US Gov't based on your net income. If you paid more than that amount, you get a refund! It kind of sucks... especially since you generally have to claim your American income again when doing your taxes for your own country. I'm not overly familiar with UK taxes, but in Canada we can claim a foreign tax credit for income generated in another country. ~ Jen
Yeah, even though we aren't us citizens we are still supposed to pay some tax. Two years ago i paid almost $3000 and only got $400 back. I know some people who filed the wrong forms themselves to get a larger refund, but if you come back to the US the IRS will find you and make you pay them what you owe. I hate tax time. $30 was the rate for current Disney employees. the $65 is their rate for non-disney employees. Thats actually alot cheaper than most other places i've seen. I've been filing my tax return with ameritax shoppe since 2004. I trust them.
It was the same last year when if you'd made over a certain amount, you had to actually pay some tax...whereas if you hadn't reached that amount, you got all your tax back...thereby making arriving in June the BEST time in terms of tax cos in each of the six months, you don't really have much time to make that much money and you get all your tax back...if that makes sense!! From June '05 to Jan '06 I got about $800 and from Jan '06 to April '06 I got about $500...which is all good...until you convert it to pounds and then you end up with about half that in GBP! still, money's money!! I know I need it!!! x x x
Hey Everyone, Just to let you know, I used Taxactonline.com last year and it worked out just great. Their service is FREE and you just fill in all the information on the internet; it's really easy. I've used it again this year and my cheque is already in the mail. (Though from last summer I'm only getting $121 back, last year I got $978 at tax time.) I can totally understand wanting to pay a bit and use the professionals you're sure about, but I know that doing it online worked for me! Robin
Hw can you get nearly $1000 back? I worked from January - December and just got about $500 back and I did it with taxact as well ???
I worked from Jan-mid March and and somehow getting back $415 which Im pretty suprised about as thats more than I actually paid in tax!?!? Not much more, about $40 but seems a bit strange? Like Ellen says though, once you convert it into pounds and then pay the fee for paying a US$ cheque into your bank account you dont get nearly as much!
Does anyone have the email address for Disney so I can email them letting them know I haven't got my W2 form yet??? For some reason they kept screwing up my address on the portal so who knows what address they have now LOL. I just need that email address, I know the information sheet I have is around somewhere, I just can't find it in all this mess LOL.

ok, next question.. My check (cheque) is being posted out to me soon. But how do I go about cashing/depositing it in my UK bank account? Stupid question, I know. But just incase I should ask for the dosh in a different format.. I thought I'd check.. thanks
its no big deal (i used to work for the Halifax bank!!) If you recieve a cheque and its in U.S dollars you take it into your bank as normal to pay it it,they will process it and give you a reciept and then the cash will come into you account in UK Sterling (you will have your reciept,and on it it will say how much the cheque is worth in sterling!) it can take a while for it tc come in,usually about 14 working days..... maybe sooner,that was just how it worked at HBOS!!

hi! i also got the tax from jan till oct. 2006 and i got 1225$ back. didnt expect so much. but question: is this already the real cheque in the mail? what, if anyone wont send the signed forms back? is the cheque not valid then?
Yes its the real cheque took it to the bank today!!!! i feel rich.....you need to send back the forms eventually so that there can be a record that you were payed (as they filr this with your return) the queque is from the tax shoppe
